Belgotex Elite Club Challenge: Showcasing the Best of South African Hockey in a Battle for Glory

The stage is set for the highly anticipated Belgotex Elite Club Challenge, South Africa’s premier club hockey tournament. An exhilarating showcase of the best club players in the country is what awaits the esteemed Riverside Hockey Club in Durban North next weekend (13-15 July).

The Belgotex Elite Club Challenge will feature top-tier women's and men's teams from across the country. The participating clubs have been divided into two competitive pools, promising an intense battle for bragging rights on the field.

In Women's Pool A, the dynamic Phoenix Hockey Club, defending champions Riverside Hockey Club, and the formidable Crusaders Hockey Club will clash in an exciting series of matches. Women's Pool B will see Kearsney Hockey Club, Wanderers Hockey Club and Western Province Cricket Club vying for victory in thrilling encounters.

The Men's division will witness fierce competition in Pool A between Pretoria High School Old Boys' Hockey Club, hosts Riverside Hockey Club, debutants Morningside Country Club Hockey and defending champions Beaulieu Hockey Club. Meanwhile, Pool B will feature a gripping contest among Wanderers Hockey Club, Western Province Cricket Club, debutants Central Hockey Club and Kearsney Hockey Club.

The defending champions, Beaulieu Hockey Club in the men's tournament and Riverside Hockey Club in the women's tournament, will be desperately trying to hold onto their titles that they secured 12 months ago, knowing that their competitors are eager to claim the trophy for themselves as a battle that would metaphorically align to a JRR Tolkien epic. Riverside women won their third title in the five women’s tournaments so far, by far the most successful team, while for Beaulieu it was a first win and will be hoping to close the gap to Riverside’s three titles in the eight tournaments so far with another win in 2023.

The tournament will follow a two-pool format, with the top team from each pool advancing to the highly anticipated finals. Hockey enthusiasts can experience the thrill first-hand by attending the matches at the venue or tune in to the SuperSport Schools A pp for live streaming, ensuring that the excitement reaches a wide audience
