SA Hockey IPT 2023 | The future becomes clearer as Semi-Finalists are revealed.

South Africa Under 21 were the first of four teams to secure a semi-final spot in an incredibly tough fought battle with North West. A determined run by Rea Phume through the middle of the defence saw Caylin Maree set up and her dinked finish was truly quality. Taheera Augousti doubled the lead when she reacted first to hesitant defending and smashed the ball home. North West brought a goal back through legendary Kim Hubach to set up a frenetic final quarter, but it was not enough, and the national junior side held on for the victory and a place in the semi-finals.

Northern Blues were strongly expected to get over the challenge of Free State fairly easily, but they probably received a bigger test than anticipated. Free State took a lead when Casey-Jean Terblanche shot took a wicked deflection and found its way into the back of the goal. It remained 1-0 at the end of the opening quarter. Northern Blues created a wave of pressure and legendary Celia Seerane levelled matters with a deft touch after a wonderful drive. Tegan Fourie produced a wonderful drag flick to give the Blues a 2-1 lead and Seerane made it 3-1 after making a superb run to react to a loose ball and finish brilliantly. Free State pulled a late goal through Carolien Wessels, but it ultimately turned to be just a consolation.

Western Province received a stern test from surprise opponent Southern Gauteng, but a superb opening quarter ultimately saw them get the job done. They looked tosiege on the Southern Gauteng defense and smashed three goals in the first stanza. Tarryn Lombard continued her fine form in opening the scoring finishing into an empty net after superb work from Nicole Koenig. Stephanie Botha popped up on the post to tap home after Quanita Bobbs struck the post and the third was struck by the effervescent Onthatile Zulu getting to a cross and forcing the ball home. Southerns managed to stem the storm, but a late Coltman goal was also just a consolation.

After three tight semi-finals KZN Raiders will be pleased with the ease at which they dispatched SG Witises. It took just four minutes before Lilian du Plessis. struck a low penalty corner. One became two through Kerryn Swanepoel as the half-time break saw the score hit 2-0 a superb little touch for the goal. Raiders put the foot down in the third quarter Phiwo Myeza, Charlene Boshoff and Charne Maddocks stretched the lead. International indoor star Jess Lardant, the captain, made it 6-0 and Malikah Hamza made it 7. up for the hosts. A very late goal for Jarnell Charlie was the consolation goal for Witsies.

In the B section WP Peninsula secured a top spot of Pool A with a 2-0 win over Eastern Province. Eastern Province will join Pens in the semi-final having won their opening three games. Border secured top spot in Pool B with a big win over SACD and they are joined by KZN Mynahs who stole a narrow victory over their Robins friends!
